چکیده

We investigate the effects of polytetrafluoroethylene PTFE on poly 3-hexylthiophene :phenylC61-butyric acid methyl ester P3HT:PCBM based organic photovoltaic OPV devices by inserting thermally evaporated PTFE films between indium-tin-oxide ITO and P3HT:PCBM layers. Significant improvement in terms of open-circuit voltage, short-circuit current, and thereby in its commensurate power conversion efficiency is achieved compared to devices with poly 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene :poly styrene-sulfonate layers. The OPVs performance enhancement is attributed to the formation of an artificial dipole layer resulting from the rich, negatively charged fluorine that facilitates the hole extraction process. This result shows the high potential of PTFE as a low cost and stable ITO buffer layer for OPV devices. © 2008 American Institute of Physics. DOI: 10.1063/1.2983742

All-Carbon Electrodes for Flexible Solar Cells

Transparent electrodes based on carbon nanomaterials have recently emerged as new alternatives to indium tin oxide (ITO) or noble metal in organic photovoltaics (OPVs) due to their attractive advantages, such as long-term stability, environmental friendliness, high conductivity, and low cost. However, it is still a challenge to apply all-carbon electrodes in OPVs. Here, we report our efforts to...

Efficient inverted polymer solar cells

We investigate the effect of interfacial buffer layers—vanadium oxide V2O5 and cesium carbonate Cs2CO3 —on the performance of polymer solar cells based on regioregular poly3-hexylthiophene and 6,6 -phenyl C60 butyric acid methyl ester blend. The polarity of solar cells can be controlled by the relative positions of these two interfacial layers. Efficient inverted polymer solar cells were fabric...

Tuning hole charge collection efficiency in polymer photovoltaics by optimizing the work function of indium tin oxide electrodes with solution-processed LiF nanoparticles

By varying the density of solution-processed lithium fluoride (sol-LiF) nanoparticles at the interface between tin-doped indium oxide (ITO) and poly(3,4ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), we have demonstrated that the electronic hole collection efficiency of an organic photovoltaic cell can be optimized through tuning the energy level alignment at the ITO/PEDOT:PSS inter...

Improving power efficiencies in polymer—polymer blend photovoltaics

The use of blends of electron and hole transporting polymers has been shown to increase exciton dissociation and efficiency in polymer-based photovoltaics. We compare plain M3EHPPV devices to M3EH-PPV:CN-ether-PPV blend devices, demonstrating the improved performance of blends. We vary the polymer layer thickness and device electrodes for M3EHPPV:CN-ether-PPV polymer blend devices to investigat...

Enhanced Physical Properties Of Indium Tin Oxide Films Grown on Zinc Oxide-Coated Substrates

Structural, electrical and optical properties of indium tin oxide or ITO (In2O3:SnO2) thin films on different substrates are investigated. A 100-nm-thick pre-deposited zinc oxide (ZnO) buffer layer is utilized to simultaneously improve the electrical and optical properties of ITO films. High purity ZnO and ITO layers are deposited with a radio frequency sputtering in argon ambient with plasma p...
